My only agenda is to help clients on their journey to substance use that is consistent with the lifestyle and values that they are aiming for. I will however, be honest and 'straight forward' in discussing these issues and perhaps challenging the clients respectfully when I feel it is required.
When substance use becomes problematic it is not always easy to 'just stop' there are many factors involved. Dependence on a drug will involve a physical, psychological, social, emotional factors as well as habits and routines that are hard to break.
Often there are underlying issues that create a problematic relationship with alcohol or other drugs. During counselling the underlying issues can be addressed through therapy, therefore making it easier to regain control of reducing your use or giving up all together, according to what your goals may be.
